So I’m trashing on one of my main tenants of this site, which is to not link to stuff that you’ve probably seen, however I can’t stop listening to the Best of Bootie album that I found courtesy of BoingBoing. It is soo freakin awesome, in particular the tracks “Walking With a Ghost in Paris,” and “Black Beatles.” Go snag it
The Aural Times sings the news of the day so that you don’t have to read it… plus their first song about Cheney is catchy… plus the site lay out is nice… plus they just started, heres hoping they can keep it up. Also I like the lyrics to his Cheney hunting song way more than this song I came across here. I would imagine though there will be lots of mashup on this subject before the end of February.
So I probably shouldn’t be laughing about this piece on cat pianos from We Make Money Not Art, but tell me you can look at that picture without at least snickering and I’ll call you a liar, or at least someone I pity.
“In order to raise the spirits of an Italian prince burdened by the cares of his position, a musician created for him a cat piano. The musician selected cats whose natural voices were at different pitches and arranged them in cages side by side, so that when a key on the piano was depressed, a mechanism drove a sharp spike into the appropriate cat’s tail. The result was a melody of meows that became more vigorous as the cats became more desperate. Who could not help but laugh at such music? Thus was the prince raised from his melancholy.”
The MIT Media Lab is always putting out cool stuff, probably my favorite Blogdex, which could use some serious updating, however this I/O brush is pretty sweet too.
“I/O Brush is a new drawing tool to explore colors, textures, and movements found in everyday materials by “picking up” and drawing with them. I/O Brush looks like a regular physical paintbrush but has a small video camera with lights and touch sensors embedded inside. Outside of the drawing canvas, the brush can pick up color, texture, and movement of a brushed surface. On the canvas, artists can draw with the special “ink” they just picked up from their immediate environment. ”
This is soooo illegal it is not even funny, however I will enjoy it while it is around. A few websites have started broadcasting television streaming over the internet. You can watch ESPN, and French Fashion Television among others including, more uhh “adult” content.
The White Pod Resort experience looks to be pretty amazing. The site is in flash, but has a pretty decent interface.
“Whitepod offers a new highly exclusive Alpine experience. A hi-tech eco camp for just twelve guests situated over 1500m high in the Swiss Alps, it offers the ultimate in comfort and adventure. Access is limited. There are no busy streets. No hotels. Nothing at all in fact, apart from the majesty of the Alps, the breathtaking beauty of the scenery. ”
I have always kind of liked Hugo Chavez, and the Bolivarian Revolution in Venzuela, this article by David Sugar made it easier to do so. Some of the claims paint a much rosier picture than the wiki article, or the clearly biased Dictator of the Month article. However his revelation that hackers saved the Venezuelan economy is certainly an interesting one.
Excerpt:”When the rich of Venezuela ponder who it was that made Venezuela become a revolutionary nation, they shouldn’t look at President Chavez, who may not have even been thinking of this at the time, and certainly had no means to accomplish it if he had; instead, they should look in the mirror.
Do I get to be on a watch list for this?
Found this video over at videosift, which appears to be a digg rip off that essentially links You Tube and Google videos and allows people to vote on them. It’s new, but i have to admit that im curious what google’s or You Tubes response will be in the inevitability that this site, or a similar one starts representing a massive draw on their bandwith. Also, google needs to just go ahead and buy You Tube before yahoo once again beats them to the punch on purchasing well developed tag databases of media.
Anyway, the video is a 747 blowing various cars over as they attempt to drive behind it.
Well clearly this video is NSFW, I really enjoy that they blur out her face, as if that helps. Clearly any one who has gotten to the point that they not only breast feed animals but is willing do it on TV, has let the cat out of the bag… sorry… so to speak. I bet that all of her friends and relatives are at home watching, again, via the excellent VideoSift.
Back in 1981, Sagawa gained notoriety when he murdered and cannibalized a Dutch woman in Paris. After being arrested in France, the court ruled that he was insane and unfit to stand trial (due to an injury he allegedly had suffered at an earlier age to his prefrontal cortex), and so he was deported to a mental hospital in Japan in 1984 in a deal arranged by his wealthy father. Once back in Japan, the head doctor of the hospital declared Sagawa sane, and so he was released.
How did Japan react to this blatant miscarriage of justice?
[Yum!] What did the Japanese people do when they found themselves face-to-face with a human monster who brutally murdered a young woman, and butchered and ate her corpse?
